Recently, the third-graders at Pierceton Elementary School were treated to a convocation given by Shelley Heckert from the KC Recycling Depot.
She taught the children about landfills and how they are made. As she talked the children were called up to add candy, pudding, cookie crumbs and other goodies to make each layer.
She also discussed items that should go the landfill and those that should be recycled. At the end of the presentation they were each able to have a cup of the ‘landfill’ to eat.
It was a way to learn about what happens to the garbage, how to protect the land and to have a good time, too.
