Pierceton Suspends Deputy Officer

Posted

PIERCETON - Deputy Terry Cahill was suspended without pay by the town council Wednesday.

Specific reasons for the action were not provided by the board. Cahill has five days to request a hearing on the matter.

The board would say little more, except that the suspension without pay allows Cahill to retain health insurance coverage through the town.

Lawyer Jim Walmer, citing state statute, gave reasons why an officer would be suspended or dismissed but did not indicate which reason led to Cahill's suspension.

If an officer neglects his duty, violates rules, neglects or violates an order, becomes incapacitated, fails to report to duty, conducts himself immorally or participates in conditions injurious to the public well being or acts in ways unbecoming of an officer, a suspension may be indicated.

Cahill, 26, was hired Dec. 15, 2002, after serving in Pierceton as a reserve officer for about a year.

Town council members are Jerry Kreger, Bob Tenney and Mandy Espinoza.
