FORT WAYNE – Three students from Pierceton Elementary School were honored with awards at the Northeast Indiana Regional Science Fair at IPFW. Jordyn Leininger, 8-year-old PES second-grade daughter of Thad and Rochelle Leininger, was awarded Regional Winner. Her experiment was titled “Plant and Animal Cells.” She received $100 from the Fort Wayne Vet Sciences. She plans to save the money. Her favorite subjects are math, reading and writing workshop. Kaylee Allen and Angel Miller, PES fifth-graders in Beth Woodard’s class, were awarded third place with their experiment in crystal growth. Kaylee is the daughter of Jeff and Abbie Sutton. Her favorite subject at school is reading because “I like getting lost in a good book. I learned that atoms and molecules are in everything while we were working on our project that I didn't know before. I’d like to learn about what would happen if I put salt in it for my next science project.” Angel Miller is the daughter of Shawn and Emily Miller. Her favorite subject in school is math. She recently finished reading The Templeton Twins Have an Idea. “I learned that temperature actually does affect the growth of crystals,” she said.
