Pierceton Sets Leaf Pickup, Halloween Hours

PIERCETON - Pierceton Town Council will hold a public hearing Oct. 19 in clerk treasurer Janet Castle's office at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting is to discuss proposed water line improvements for the town.

Those in support and against proposed improvements are invited to attend. The town is currently seeking grant money to help pay for such a project.

The town council released two mortgages of houses through the Housing Opportunities of Warsaw.

Halloween hours for Pierceton this year are Oct. 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Leaf pickup in Pierceton starts Oct. 25. Leaves don't have to be bagged but need to be raked to the curb.

Pierceton Town Marshal Tim Sammons said the town didn't get a grant it had applied for.

The federal COPS grant, which would pay for a police officer in a community for a set period of time, had 4,423 departments apply and only 379 (8 percent) were given funds.

The town council approved for office Jim Bumbaugh to attend a three-day training session southeast of Indianapolis.

According to Sammons, the training is free but the town would have to pay for Bumbaugh's food and lodging.

Sammons said there is also a chance Bumbaugh could carpool with another officer attending the training so Bumbaugh wouldn't have to take his squad car.

Town board president Jerry Hartman was absent from Monday's meeting. The other town board members are Jerry Kreger and Mandy Espinoza.
