PIERCETON - Town council members held a short meeting Monday night, hearing that Easterday Construction has been given a notice to proceed on the Senior Center building construction.

Bob Murphy of R.P. Murphy and Associates was on hand, saying construction should be complete in less than six months. The facility, which will hold meeting space and house town offices and equipment, will be constructed at the corner of First and Market streets where the Perry Building once stood.

Bids were also read for construction of treatment cells to "air out" the contaminated soil taken from the site. Under advisement are bids from Ransbottom Construction for $24,900 and from SCS Environmental for $24,882.

President Jerry Kreger announced two more applications have been approved for the owner-occupied housing rehabilitation grant.

The board unanimously decided not to accept applicants who are purchasing their property under a land contract.

In other business the board:

• Heard a smoke test will be conducted on the storm drains within two weeks.

• Advised utility manager Brad Bailey the storm drain at the corner of Washington and Catholic streets is clogged.

• Agreed to begin prioritizing projects for when EDIT funds are received.

Board members are Kreger, Ron Hall and Terry Hill. They meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the Community Building.
