PIERCETON - While discussing Monday whether to sign a new contract with Triax Cable, it was noted that the town was, at that time, without cable service.
Granted, the weather may have played a role in Monday's outage, but other outages have occurred without explanation, according to town officials. It was also noted that response time to outages, as well as complaints about the service in general, "leaves a lot to be desired."
The town's attorney, Jim Walmer, compared the old ordinance with the new proposal, but no action was taken at this time.
In other business, the council tabled discussion on a chipper until decisions are made regarding size and how much money the town would have to match if a grant was obtained. Town superintendent Brad Bailey is checking into prices on chippers, as well as available grant funding.
The council signed a road-cut permit for Sprint to trench lines for Contech at the industrial park.
In a related matter, the council set a special meeting for 3 p.m. Monday to open bids for installing a water line from the water tower to the industrial park to give Contech needed additional water pressure.
Special meetings were also set for 6 p.m. March 17 (executive session regarding personnel) and for April 15 with the Chamber of Commerce to get details on which agencies are taking care of the various aspects of Pierceton Days.
The next regular meeting is at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in the community building.
