PIERCETON - The police computer is no longer working correctly, according to town marshal Tim Sammons at the council meeting Monday.
Sammons said the model and software date to 1984 and were originally used by the Winona Lake Police Department. Although the data are readable, there is no way of printing.
The marshal's request for a new system and repairs to the old computer was approved.
Sammons introduced full-time officer Jim Bumbaugh and reserve officers Tiffany Fulk and Nathan Rhoades.
He said officer Terry Cahill has completed the first part of training as a firearms instructor and will return to the police academy in the fall for the second phase of the certification.
Jeff and Deb Frazier's request to rezone part of their property from commercial to residential was approved.
The council heard that the new fire truck should arrive Thursday when the Pierceton department hosts the county-wide fire department meeting.
The council also:
Approved Niblock Excavating's $17,387 quote to repave Columbia Street from Cherry Street to the east end; Catholic Street from the alley to the dead end; Fifth Street from Market to Catholic; Elm Street from First to Washington; and other small improvements.
Approved Pierceton Day's organizer Kim Rose's request to "tape off" Ruth Horn's property during the Aug. 6 and 7 event.
