PIERCETON – A request that was tabled in March for a tornado siren to be set off by county dispatch was approved by the Pierceton Town Council Monday night. The council approved the motion and agreed to pay $225 to allow county dispatch to set off an alarm in town if there is a tornado warning that threatens Pierceton. Town council president Jerry Kreger said last month he wanted more information on whether there would be some discretion on when the siren was set off. Kreger said he didn’t want to see the siren go off if it wasn’t going to affect Pierceton residents. Kreger said he was told that not only can dispatch set the alarm, but the Pierceton fire and police departments can also call dispatch to set the siren. Town marshal Tim Sammons received permission from the council to send officer Matt Owens to training for instructor development. The cost is $420. With the training, Owens can instruct other officers in basic state mandates. Sammons said that for Owens to keep his certification, he would have to earn so many hours instructing officers each year. Joe Tierney from GRW, Indianapolis, appeared before the council. Tierney told the council how they would break their water improvements into three separate projects. The first would involve water line extension and replacing water treatment plant improvement. The second step includes water treatment plant improvements. The next project would involve rehabbing the town’s water tank. The board signed yearly compliance papers for Paragon Medical’s tax abatements. The Pierceton Fire Department fish and tenderloin fry is Saturday from 4 p.m. until sold out. It’s all-you-can eat, and the cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The fry will be at the fire station.
