PIERCETON - The Pierceton Community Chamber of Commerce honored longtime businessman Paul Pletcher at the annual awards banquet Wednesday.
Pletcher was named citizen of the year by the chamber. His family business has served the Pierceton community since 1952.
"The first thing I can think of is that I've been here a long time," Pletcher said in accepting the award.
He recounted how the town has changed over the years and thanked the chamber for its continued support of the town's business owners.
Also honored during the ceremonies were Wendell and John Sadler and Bud Ashley, of the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Home, which was named small business of the year.
The funeral home, which has served the community since the late 1800s, burned Jan. 4 but is being rebuilt and will remain in the community, according to John Sadler.
Ken Garvey of Pierceton Community Services also presented a check for $1,500 to Roger Boggs of the Pierceton Park Board. The funds will be used for the park department's youth leagues sports program.
