Pierceton Hears Complaints About Local Cable Company

Posted

PIERCETON - The quality of television served as the main topic at the town council meeting Monday night - quality of service, that is, not programming.

Resident Tom Barker attended the meeting and asked the board about Triax Cablevision's "terrible service."

"It's almost every day [they're off the air]," Barker said. "I've been calling them almost every day, too. Their notices say if we tamper with their boxes, it's cable theft. I reminded them if they don't provide service it's consumer fraud."

Board president Jerry Kreger and member Ron Hall agreed with Barker's assessment.

"It's why you see so many satellite dishes going up in town," Kreger said.

Hall commented his service was out four days last month.

Town attorney Jim Walmer said perhaps a letter of complaint should be written to the company, recently purchased by MediaCom. The town has a franchise with the company.

"Maybe they don't care about being in business," Walmer said. "But we're losing money, too."

The board heard from Bob Joy, owner of 202 S. Fifth St., asking about the location of the water shut-off valve for that property. He said he believes the valve is 4 feet underground, and he has asked the water department repeatedly to come and dig it up so he could have access to it.

Brad Bailey, utilities supervisor, said the valve wasn't that far down and someone would go out and mark its location.

Bailey said videotaping of the sanitary sewer/storm drain line on the west end of town should begin next month, although the board has not decided which company to award the taping contract.

Gene Barnett, fire department chief, wished to thank the community for supporting the photography package fund raiser. The department raised more than $4,700 which will allow the department to purchase two air packs. The devices are worn by firemen when working in a smoke-filled environment.

Cost of two Drger air pacts is $3,930, which includes a bottle of oxygen per unit, according to a written quote.

Member Terry Hill was absent. The town council meets the second Monday of each month at town hall.
