Pierceton Days Set For This WeekendPIERCETON - For those on a tight budget, this weekend's Pierceton Days is as cost effective as it comes.
Set for Friday and Saturday, Pierceton Days will have plenty of free activities and concerts.
The theme for this year is "Small Town Cowboy".
The parade will be at 4 p.m. Saturday. There are 60 pre-registered parade floats, and Warsaw's, Wawasee's and Whitko's high school bands will be in the parade.
"It's a good family thing," said Kim Rose, Pierceton Days director. "I want everyone to come. It's been a tough year for everyone. Have everyone come forget their troubles and see friends they haven't."Rose said she and her mom Judy Hartup make up the committee and work all year to get this event ready. And now it's finally here.
Things kick off Friday at noon when all the vendors located in town open. There will be amusement rides open all day as well.
While the vendors and rides will cost money, there will be free concerts during the two-day event.
CODA will play a free concert in the town's park from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Friday night.
WC and the Field will play in the park from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Perhaps the top draw for the weekend is the car show Friday. The registration fee is $10 per car at Lake City Bank and takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Twenty cars already have registered. Rose said they usually get 100 cars registered for the event.
Car show winners will be announced in front of the American Legion at 8:45 p.m.
Miss Pierceton and the Pretty Baby prize will be given out Friday night at 9 p.m.
Pierceton Town Board President Jerry Hartman is offering a sacrifice for charity Saturday night. Patrons can buy tickets to see Hartman have his ponytail and hair cut off at 6 p.m. Saturday.
There will be free carriage rides from 5 to 9 p.m.
Weather and wind permitting, those interested can make a donation to take a hot air balloon ride from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
