Pierceton Days Next Weekend; Open House Winners Announced

PIERCETON – The Pierceton Chamber of Commerce has announced results from the Pierceton Open House on June 28.  
This was a free event held at the community building with a live remote broadcast by radio. The winners will be in the parade on Aug. 1 in downtown Pierceton during Pierceton Days.
Pierceton Days is July 31 and Aug. 1. The theme this year is “Family Game Night.”
Events include a car show July 31 at 5 p.m. and the parade Aug. 1 at 4 p.m., as well as the Pretty Baby Contest and Miss Pierceton pageant. New this year are puppies and kittens up for adption from the Humans Shelter and karaoke Aug. 1 in the evening.
Citizen of the Year during the open house was Deloris Kirkham, known in town as the “Cookie Lady.” She can be seen at Pierceton Market every Friday at 4 p.m. with her famous cookies. Also nominated were Chip Hill, who won Spirit of the Year in 2014, and Betty Rose Stahl.
The Business of the Year winner was Mort Chiropractic. Owner Sue Mort is seen as a gem in the community and works with many people, according to information from the chamber.  
Also nominated were My Red Moon, Pierceton Foods and Sydow’s Antiques.
Steve and Sandi Miner were the 2015 Spirit of the Year winners for their work in the community with the food pantry and many other projects, according to the chamber. This category represents integrity, honor, positive energy and team spirit.
Other nominees were Jim Townsend, Jean Baughman (known as “Grandma B”) and Laurie Schotz.
