Pianist To Perform During Arts Fest

Posted
WABASH - British pianist Simon Mulligan is used to performing before large audiences.

He celebrated his debut at age 19 at London's Barbican Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; a month later he recorded his first compact disc under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin. Described by The Times of London as "the most abundantly gifted of pianists," Mulligan performs and records internationally as a soloist and chamber musician.Mulligan will soon release a recording of Beethoven's sonatas on Sony Masterworks. His previous solo album for Sony Classical, "Piano," won great acclaim throughout Europe, South America and the Far East, and was featured in various television, radio and internet campaigns.

While in Wabash, Mulligan will provide a solo performance during the Charley Creek Arts Fest June 28 at 1 p.m. in the Honeywell Room of the Honeywell Center. He will also be a part of a very special performance June 27 when Mulligan joins double bassist Ranaan Meyer and Fort Wayne Philharmonic's violinist and violist Derek Reeves to perform a variety of Big Band Era music in a "jam session" style performance.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. in the Victorian garden area of the Dr. James Ford Historic Home, 177 W. Hill St., Wabash. None of the musicians have played together in the past, making this a rare treat. The performance is offered free of charge, but reservations are appreciated.
