NAPPANEE - Phyllis J. Black, 90, of 141 Oak Grove Road, Harrison, Mich., and formerly of Nappanee, died at 9:36 a.m. April 6, 2008, in Tender Care Nursing Home, Clare, Mich.

She was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Nappanee, to Dillman and Edith Eshenbaugh Callander. On May 30, 1947, in South Bend, she married Darwin R. Black, who died April 25, 1997.

Moving to Harrison from Nappanee in 1979, she was a 1935 Nappanee High School graduate and was an office assistant for Dr. Douglas Price, Nappanee, for 18 years. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 154 Women's Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice (and spouse Dave) Cunningham, Nappanee; a son, Thomas (Darlene) Black, Elkhart; four grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Callander, Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. David Harrold officiating. Inurnment will be at Union Center Cemetery.

Calling is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
