The Kosciusko County Community Foundation recently awarded the 2009 Phillip Hochstetler Memorial Scholarship.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept. Det./Sgt. Phil Hochstetler was killed in the line of duty June 29, 1994, while investigating a theft of firearms. Hochstetler was pursuing a degree in criminal justice at the time of his death.
Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine began the scholarship program for local area students who also were pursuing a career in the criminal justice field.
This year's recipient was Nick Metzger, of Whitko High School. Metzger said he is planning to attend Ball State University in the fall.
