Phillip Abbett, 67, died at 11:10 p.m. May 16, 2011, in his home. He was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Martinsville, to Otha Andrew and Dorothy Louise Roe Abbett, who preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War, honorably discharged Sept. 2, 1970. He lived in Pierceton for 17 years after moving from Fort Wayne. He was a truck driver since 1975 and drove for D.R. Smith for the past seven years. He was a member of American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, when his boys were younger he took them canoeing, hiking, and target shooting. Surviving are two sons, Phillip A. Abbett, and Matthew Abbett, both of Pierceton; two brothers, Otha A. Abbett Jr., Naples, Fla., and Nick Abbett, Huntington; and a sister, Reba Christiansen, Morgantown. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Abbett and Ken Abbett. Visitation and services are not planned. Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery.
