Phend & Brown Gets Bid For Intersection Project

Posted

Phend & Brown's bid for the CR 300 N and Ind. 15 intersection improvement project was approved by the Warsaw Public Work and Safety Committee June 17.

The project will develop the area for the construction of Kohl's department store as well as multiple residential complexes.

"The city needs to start on this as soon as possible. I feel this is important enough that the sooner this project is finished, the better it will be for the community," Mayor Ernie Wiggins said.

The total bid price for the project is estimated at $397,697.

The committee also approved a contractual agreement to allow the Parks and Recreation department, in partnership with Our Father's House, to provide catering for a Garden Tea Party June 29.

This event is scheduled to meet in the east picnic shelter.

The board also:

• Accepted bids for the leasing of public works dump trucks. Bids are still under review and will be decided at the next meeting, June 30.

• Approved $3,000 for primary maintenance of the plan committee's geographical information systems. This maintenance updates software and current data for the GIS.

• Approved a request from the parks department to trade in a lawn mower. A new model will be purchased for $5,111 after the trade in. The city budgets $7,200 for a new lawn mower every four years.

• Approved the renewal of the city's corporate YMCA membership.

• Approved a maintenance agreement to spend $771 towards the maintenance of the city clerk's office copying machine.

• Approved new job descriptions for the public works department. The titles of refuse driver and refuse collector will replace certain laborers categorized as equipment operators. Wiggins commented on the approval, saying that the reclassification will greatly help with communications within the department.

• Reviewed and approved new hires, salary increases and travel requests for city employees.

Members present for the meeting were Wiggins and Charlie Smith. Board member Jerry Patterson was absent.
