Incoming Warsaw Community High School senior Will Petro is still in the running to win this week’s American Junior Golf Association Stonehenge Junior Open. Entering today’s final round at his home course, Petro is tied for third place with a two-day score of 137. Working his way into a three-way tie, Petro shot a three-under 68 Wednesday. Orient, Ohio’s Cameron Michalak holds sole possession of the lead with a tournament total of 7-under 135. Michalak carded a second-round 3-under 68 to take a one-shot lead heading into the final round. Michalak made three birdies and an eagle en route to his round of 68. The eagle on No. 6 was the highlight of the round for Michalak. His drive flew into the left rough sitting 158-yards away from the hole. Using his 9-iron he not only put the ball on the green, but put the ball right in the hole. “I hit a smooth 9-iron from the rough and it went in,” Michalak said. Michalak has recorded only two bogeys in the first two rounds and is avoiding big numbers because of his stong greenside play. “I missed the green a bunch, but I was able to get up-and-down a lot,” Michalak said. He is looking for his first AJGA win. “It would be huge to win this event.” In the girls division, Danielle Nicholson of Geneva, Ohio, continues to lead the tournament total of 1-over 143. For Petro, he recorded six birdies on the second day of competition, after posting five Tuesday. The final round of the tournament is today, but Petro is the only Warsaw Tiger to continue. With a two-day total of 148 being the cut for the final round, Jonathan Hollar shot a 76 Wednesday, which coupled with his 74 on Tuesday, gave him a 150. Also from Warsaw, Ryan Cultice posted a two-day total of 159 (79-80), Joshua Ahlersmeyer finished with a 160 (77-83), Brandon Eckert had a 162 (79-83) and Reid Cameron wrapped up his tournament with a 174 (93-81).
