Pierceton Elementary School held its annual Scripps/Howard Spelling Bee Dec. 16 in the commons. Malcolm Hoover won first place with runner-up Cyrus Shepherd. This year Pierceton conducted spelling bees in each of the fifth-grade classes and the top 10 spellers from each class advanced to the finals. Hoover will represent Pierceton at the local spelling bee Feb. 4.
