A pedestrian believed by police to be intoxicated was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night near North Webster.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on East CR 500N east of Ind. 13 at about 6:47 p.m., according to a report by the KCSD.

Police found Page A. Kalp, 32, North Webster, lying in the road. He complained of pain to a leg but refused treatment, the report said.

The driver, Deana J. Pancake, 51, North Webster, told police she was driving west on CR 500N when she saw a man walking on her side of the road and attempted to drive around him. She said it appeared the man moved into her path and she could not avoid striking him.

She said the snow-covered road conditions made it more difficult to stop.

Both Kalp and Pancake were given breathalyzer tests.

Pancake registered a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.0, but Kalp registered 0.19, which is more than twice the legal limit.

Kalp was treated by medics at the scene but was not hospitalized.
