PBS Series Films Segment At Rabb/Kinetico

Rabb/Kinetico Water Systems will be highlighted by the PBS series "National Environmental Report."

Thursday, a cameraman and a producer for the series, hosted by Hugh Downs, visited Warsaw to film footage of the business. Rabb/Kinetico employees were interviewed on camera, and footage of a company client was shot Thursday afternoon.

The objective of "National Environmental Report" is to inform and educate the environmental community and the consumer about the products, services and issues that most affect them.

Rusty Ritter, Rabb/Kinetico manager, said the nationally televised series is aired in all 50 states. "They're talking about the environmental benefits of the Kinetico system," said Ritter."Kinetico is non-electrical, on-demand, engineered to use less salt and water than an old-fashioned typical water system," Ritter said.

He said he was asked about the environmentally friendliness of the Kinetico systems, what customers liked about it and the common water problems the company sees.

The series, Ritter said, will be shown on PBS as a filler in between shows once filming and editing is completed.

Asked how the television series found Rabb/Kinetico in Warsaw, President Don Clemens said, "They probably just found us online. They were looking for someone in Indiana they could do a green project with. They asked us what we do to help the environment, we told them, and they were excited."

With Downs as the series host, Clemens said that lent credibility to the show for him. Clemens agreed for Rabb/Kinetico to take part.

Judith Remekie is a producer with Vision Media, Boca Raton, Fla., that distributes shows like "National Environmental Report" to cable networks and individual stations.

Remekie said the "National Environmental Report" segment highlights companies that impact Americans, and what they do for the environment. She researched Rabb/Kinetico prior to shooting the footage, and came up with a focus on the company's environmentally friendliness.

The segment will be more relevant than just being about water quality, she said. It addresses people's concerns about the number of water bottles used in a year, the energy used to mass produce the water bottles, and also helps consumers know how to test and assess their water quality at home.

Also on hand for filming of the series Thursday was Joe Harrison, Water Quality Association technical director. The WQA is a trade association representing 2,500 companies throughout the U.S. like Kinetico, Harrison said.

He said there are many greenhouse benefits with water softeners, including energy savings, and they save wear and tear on appliances and clothing.

"I think, definitely, water softeners come out on the positive end," said Harrison.

By participating in the television series, Harrison said, it helps water product companies like Kinetico.

"It gets our story out there," he said. "It gets the benefits of water treatment out there."
