Pauline Mae Shedd, of Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, while visiting a friend in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 92.
Born on Dec. 29, 1933, in Gardner, Mass., Pauline was one of five children blessed to Alice Margaret Taylor and Marshall Shedd. Though the Shedd family lived in several New England communities throughout her youth, they eventually settled in Canaan, N.H. After graduating from Canaan High School in 1951, Pauline attended North East Bible Institute for two years then traveled through New England conducting children’s ministries in various churches. She returned to Canaan and worked at Dartmouth College then decided to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. She moved to Springfield, Missouri, to attend Evangel College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She began teaching elementary school in the Springfield public schools and completed her master’s degree in education at Southwest Missouri State University. Seeking a drier climate for health reasons, she accepted a teaching position on the Indian reservation near Albuquerque, N.M. Recognizing students’ needs in reading, she took summer classes in Tucson, Ariz., and became a certified reading teacher. She fell in love with Arizona and in 1977 moved to Prescott to teach reading in elementary schools there until she retired in 2000. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling with friends, visiting several states in the Northwest and Hawaii as well as return trips to New England. She also toured Ireland, England, Austria, Spain and Italy. She loved to read, attend concerts and host family members and friends who visited to explore Arizona’s beauty.
In 2022, Pauline sold her much loved home in Prescott and moved to Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake to be closer to her youngest sister, Rhoda (Shedd) Palmer, and her older sister, Verna, who was living at Grace Village at the time. She enjoyed being a part of family celebrations and attending Pleasant View Bible Church.
Pauline loved teaching, loved children and lived a long and fulfilling life. She will forever be lovingly remembered by her sister, Rhoda (Clif) Palmer, Winona Lake; her one niece and four nephews, as well as 17 great-nieces and -nephews. She leaves behind many friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur Glenroy Shedd, Allen Proctor Shedd; and her sister, Verna Jane (Shedd) Curry; and sister-in-law, Shirley Ann (Hanson) Shedd.
Pauline’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Pleasant View Bible Church, 2782 W. CR 200N, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Mike Hontz. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Cemetery in Warsaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth-Byers Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
