NORTH MANCHESTER — Paul R. Ebbinghouse, 91, North Manchester, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Nov. 8, 2018, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center.

Paul was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Huntington, to Elmer and Edythe Fair Ebbinghouse, and was their only child. Paul was a 1945 graduate of Laketon High School, where he enjoyed participating in track and field.

Paul spent a year in the Merchant Marine in New York City, N.Y., and on ships across the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

On Aug. 27, 1946, Paul married the love of his life, Doris Brandenburg, in a parsonage in Knox.

Paul spent five years working at Big Four Elevator, and from 1951 to 1962 was a ground floor molder of castings at North Manchester Foundry. Paul then became a co-owner and operator of Central Oil Co. in North Manchester, and continued to perform installations and services to oil furnaces and central air systems. He continued his hard-working principles through a variety of other jobs in his retirement after selling his business to Scott’s Landscaping.

The Ebbinghouses took delight in the adventures and joys of traveling through New England, Florida and to the sites of Western Colorado. Paul’s favorite place in his travels was Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Along with traveling, Paul’s interests and hobbies included antique cars and the annual Auburn car show, church work, Sudoku puzzles, golfing and the bountiful blessings from gardening.

He was a member of North Manchester Missionary Church, and lived a wonderful life.

He was preceded by his parents, Elmer and Edythe Ebbinghouse.

He will live on in memory by his survivors: wife Doris Ebbinghouse, North Manchester; his son, Kenneth Duane (Carol) Ebbinghouse, Fort Wayne; and his daughter, Joyce Ann (Paul) Drake, North Manchester. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amy and Aaron; great-grandchildren, Nina and Jordan; and his surrogate grandchildren, Ethan and Logan McDonald.

Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Ken Sistrunk of North Manchester Missionary Church.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
