Paul, Not Romney

The Murdoch/Lugar race is not the only important item on the Republican Primary ballot on May 8th. Even though Mitt Romney looks to have the nomination in the bag, I would like to strongly urge everyone to go to the polls on May 8th to vote for Ron Paul instead of Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney is not the conservative that he is claiming to be. He brags that he balanced Massachusetts budgets without raising taxes. Apparently he doesn’t consider the dozens of new government fees (and even more existing fees that saw dramatic increase) as taxation. During Mitt Romney’s reign in Massachusetts, citizens saw a 400 percent increase in the cost of gun permits. Gas retailers got a 2 cent per gallon fee increase. It also cost folks more to get a marriage license, renew their driver’s license, hunting permits and much more.

Critics claim that the fee hikes hurt small business, which might in part explain why Massachusetts dropped to 47th in the nation in terms of job creation by the time his four years in office was over. And never mind the impact of RomneyCare and its fines on small businesses who could not afford coverage for their employees.

Ron Paul actually suggests that we do something about the bloated federal government that doesn’t increase the burden on citizens through increased taxes (or fees – which is tax under a different name). His goal is to cut the federal budget by $1 trillion per year, taking us back to 2006 spending levels. In addition to a detailed economic plan, Ron Paul has stood with conservatives on a number of other issues that Mitt Romney has just now come around to in time for the elections.
