AKRON – Paul L. Hoffman, 83, of Akron, passed at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at Wynnfield Crossing of Rochester.

He was born on July 3, 1935, in Gilead, to John LeRoy and Ella Koenig Hoffman.

He first married Pearl Mame Rodgers of Fort Collins, Colo. They were married from 1958 to 1992. On June 5, 1992, in Albany, New York, he then married Charlene Mae Junkin, who preceded him on Feb. 9, 2018.

He worked for the United States Postal Service in California and Royal Light of Warsaw. He owned and operated Somethin’ Fishy of Claypool, importing tropical fish for pet stores for the entire region. He also was a handy man for many years in Akron.

He was a graduate of Gilead High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of master sergeant. In earlier years he enjoyed painting and golfing but especially building and making things.

He is survived by sons John (Deb) Hoffman, Clearwater, Fla.; Paul Hoffman Jr. and Bob (Lisa) Hoffman, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; stepdaughters Cheryl Shepherd Blair, Virginia Beach, Va.; Patricia Shepherd Hollister (husband Alan), Averill Park, N.Y. ; a stepson, Robert (Angela) Dawson, Akron; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Hoffman; his wife, Charlene Mae Hoffman; stepsons Albert Dawson Jr. and Rick Shepherd; and a brother, Richard Hoffman.

Funeral services for Mr. Hoffman will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Alan Hollister officiating.  Following the service, military rites will be preformed by the Fulton County Honor Guard at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service.
