NORTH MANCHESTER - Paul E. Grandstaff, 92, of North Manchester, died at 6:48 p.m. Feb. 4, 2010, at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born April 20, 1917, in Peru, to Oren and Clara Becker Grandstaff. On April 17, 1938, in North Manchester, he married Mary Alice Flenar, who died July 18, 2009.

He was a 1935 graduate of Laketon High School, and owned and operated Grandstaff Rendering Service for 47 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kiwanis Club, Deming Masonic Lodge 88 and the Eel River Shrine Club, all of North Manchester. He also was a member of Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine. He and his wife were unique ministers to Manchester College students for Sunday evening meals in their home. He lived at Peabody Retirement Community since 2005.

Surviving are four children: David (and spouse Jane) Grandstaff, North Manchester; Dr. Daniel Grandstaff (and Carolyn Worthing), Chapel Hill, N.C.; Rebecca Kilgore, Charles City, Va.; and Nancy Straka, Huntington; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester, with Pastor Jeff Hawkins and Deaconness Sabine Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester, and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the church.
