Paul David Dwyer, 82, known by most as “PD,” passed away at 9 a.m. Feb. 16, 2017, in his Chapman Lake home. He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Fort Wayne, to David John and Mary Elizabeth Runkle Dwyer. He married Sondra “Sonnie” King on July 26, 1958, in St. Paul Catholic Parish, Marion. He was originally from Marion before moving to Warsaw in 1979. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School, Marion. He entered active service on Sept. 28, 1955, in Indianapolis. As a private, he was assigned to the 14th Medical Detachment, where he served as a medical corpsman. SP4 Paul Dwyer was honorably discharged from active duty on Sept. 6, 1957, from Fort Sheridan, Ill. He served for four more years with the U.S. Army Reserves before being discharged in September 1961. He attended Indiana University before earning an A.S. in drafting at the University of Chicago. Later in his life he graduated from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He then spent 16 years in banking before buying Dwyers Mobile Home Park at Chapman Lake, which he has operated with his family since Oct. 26, 1979. He had a good sense of humor and was always joking. never knowing a stranger. He enjoyed working with wood, having built bird houses, planes and many other things. He loved fishing, Notre Dame football, the St. Louis Cardinals and IU basketball. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Sonnie Dwyer, Chapman Lake; four children: Jeff Dwyer, Leesburg; Greg (spouse Becky) Dwyer, North Manchester; Lori (Ray Marple) Horney, Warsaw; and Doug “David” Dwyer, San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren: Tiffany (spouse Michael) Moore, Silver Lake; Justin (spouse Kathrine) Dwyer, Silver Lake; Amber (fiancé AJ Hicks) Dwyer, Corpus Christi, Texas; Heather Dwyer, Gainesville, Fla.; Sara Dwyer, Gainesville; Jordan (spouse Desiree) Horney, Dutton, Ala.; and Lauren (Cody Cyr) Horney, Warsaw; and six great-grandchildren: Lillian, Hunter, Taylen, Jaxson, Brody and Jase. He was preceded by his parents, David and Mary Dwyer; his mother- and father-In-Law, Gerry and Paul King; and a son-in-law, Joseph Scott Horney. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also will be for one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 125 N. Harrison St., Warsaw, with Father Andrew Nazareth officiating.
