Patterson Won't Seek Re-Election To Dist. 4 City Council Seat

District 4 Warsaw City Councilman Jerry Patterson will not seek re-election in 2011.

Patterson, who has served five four-year terms on the council, submitted a letter to the Times-Union this morning stating he will not seek re-election.

Patterson said he wanted to announce now so others interested in running for the seat have the opportunity to seek the seat.

Patterson will continue to serve on the council this year, and next year until the last city council meeting in December 2011.

Patterson said there are two reasons he is not seeking another term.

"I feel it is time to give a new person the opportunity to serve the community," Patterson said. "Also, my wife and I will be spending our winters at our home in Arizona."

He said, during his term he has had the pleasure of working with two mayors and councilmen who he said have a heart for the people in the community.

"I am grateful I had the opportunity to get to know each and every one of them," Patterson said.

A primary will be in May for Warsaw mayor and all Warsaw city council seats, and the general election is November 2011.

Those elected will begin their terms in January 2012.

District 5 Councilman Dan Hampton was elected prosecuting attorney in the November election, and a caucus will need to be held to fill his seat.
