Patricia Deane Ulrey, 87, died July 23, 2011, in Grace Village, Winona Lake.
She was born March 9, 1924, in Columbia City, to James and Cora Anders Loe. Due to the death of her mother, she was raised by her aunt, Orpha Shepherd. On Oct. 25, 1958, in South Whitley, she married Paul Ulrey, who survives. He showed her unconditional love throughout their marriage.
She served as a WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Washington, D.C., during World War II. Living in Warsaw since 1958, she moved to Grace Village four years ago. She was a homemaker and a 1943 graduate of Columbia City High School. She spent her life putting others before herself. She was Grandma Pat or Aunt Pat to all the neighbor kids. Family surrounded her during her last week, sharing stories of her life, telling how special she was to all and how loved she was by her family and friends.
Also surviving are two sons, Harold “Hal” (and spouse Diane) Scott, Etna Green, and Paul James “Jim” Ulrey Jr., Warsaw; six daughters: Jo Anne (and spouse Rick) Jarrett, Fort Wayne; Cindy (and spouse John) Fisher, Bremen; Sharon Sowers, Fishers; Deborah (and spouse Kerry) Ducker, Bloomington; Ruth (and spouse Robert) Voreis, Claypool; and Linda (and spouse Michael) Getz, Warsaw; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, three half brothers, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Dan Litfin officiating. Burial will be in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, Silver Lake, with military graveside services by American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
