If you do not appear, the court may enter a default judgment finding you to be the father of the minor child, Gracelyn Magdalena Laird born December 15th, 2017, and may order you to contribute to the child's support. Your failure to appear may result in a warrant for your arrest. A default judgment will take effect thirty (30) days after it is served on or mailed to you unless within those thirty (30) days you present to the Court or Family Court Commissioner evidence of good cause for failure to appear.
If you plan to be represented by an attorney, contact the attorney prior to your court appearance. If you are unable to afford an attorney, the court will appoint one for you only upon the genetic tests showing that you are not excluded as the father and the probability of your being the father is less than 99.0 percent.
You are also notified that interference with the custody of the child is punishable by a fine of up $10,000 and imprisonment for up to three (3) years, six (6) months (S. 948.31(1)(b), Wis. Stats.).
