PIERCETON -ÊA Pierceton woman was listed in critical condition at Parkview Hospital this morning after being pulled from her burning house Wednesday afternoon.
Pam Walls, 50, of 9577 E. CR 150S, Pierceton, was in her home when the fire started. She was pulled from her house by a passing motorist, airlifted to Fort Wayne by the Samaritan Air Ambulance and treated for smoke inhalation.
According to Pierceton Fire Chief Gordon Baker, Pierceton-area resident Ken McIntosh was driving past the home around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when he saw flames and heavy smoke pouring from the house.
McIntosh entered the burning home and found Walls asleep in a first-floor bedroom.
"There's no way she would have survived the fire," Baker said.
When the Pierceton Fire Department arrived on the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but is believed to be accidental. The home is a complete loss.
The fire was investigated by the Pierceton Fire Department, the Kosciusko County Fire Investigation team and the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office.
Larwill and North Webster Fire Departments, Multi-Township EMS, Pierceton EMS and the Pierceton Fire Auxiliary assisted at the scene of the fire. The Winona Lake and Sidney Fire Departments were put on standby but were not called to assist.
