Activity director Janelle Wilson presented a tentative summer events schedule to the Warsaw parks and recreation board members Tuesday, saying just a few contracts have to be signed to complete the Friday concert series.
Wilson began her duties Feb. 4.
Dates and entertainment were given as: special events: March 30 - Easter Egg Hunt; May 5 or 26 - Cinco de Mayo Festival; June 8 - All American Fishing Derby; June 14 and 15 - Summer Safety Fest; Aug. 9 - Family Carnival; and Sept. 2 - Labor Day Picnic.
The City of Lakes Festival is set for June 21 through 23, with the Classic Rock Concert featuring Tommy James and the Shondells Friday, and Geoff Moore and Down Here, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church, Saturday.
Summer concerts: Blues Jam with opening act Summertime Blues Band, July 20, and the country concert, with the artists to be be announced July 26.
The popular Friday Evening Concert Series including: June 7 - Guitar Woodies; June 14 - WCHS Percussion Ensemble; June 28 - Nostalgia; July 5 - to be announced; July 12 - Brasswind; July 19 - Doc Wadkins; Aug. 2 and 16 - to be announced; Aug. 23 - Lake Area Community Band; and Aug. 30 - The Bel Airs.
Teen activities: June 29 - Rollerblade Competition, and Aug. 25 - Mini-Ramp Competition.
Wilson said the activities brochure will be a 14-page booklet format this year. Copies will be available in the regular places.
Board members reviewed and tabled a proposed facilities lease agreement and a contract with Janet Essig for maintenance of the Central Park flower beds and urns. Both were tabled due to a lack of a quorum.
Larry Plummer Jr. said the water line extension to the Pike Lake campgrounds should be complete next week. Cripe Excavating began the work a couple of weeks ago. The bathroom facilities will remain winterized until the campground opens for the season April 15.
Superintendent Jon Garber said the board might want to be thinking about another five-year plan that will begin Jan. 15, 2003, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Board members are John Sadler, president; Cathy Folk and Jeff Grouse. Absent were Toby Sumpter, Bob Richmond and Bill Baldwin, vice president.
The board meets in the Nye Youth Cabin the third Tuesday of each month at 5:15 p.m.
