Parks Dept. Master Plan Responses Sought

Posted
Warsaw Parks Department is updating its five-year master plan and is seeking public input on ways to improve park facilities and recreation programs.

The parks department has developed a survey that will assist with the master plan. The survey will be mailed with residential water bills at the end of this month.

The feedback received from the survey will be included in the master plan update, and will be given consideration in developing the master plan.

The survey asks questions about park facilities, recreation programs, park funding, park maintenance and park services.

Residents can return their surveys with their water bill payments or by dropping them off at the Wastewater Payment Office when they pay their bill.

The surveys will be available and can be dropped off beginning Friday at both park offices, city hall, the planning department office and Warsaw Community Public Library.

The survey will be available on the City of Warsaw Website on the parks department page at www.warsaw.in.gov

At its Oct. 26 park board meeting, the board approved Pat Brown, Site Scapes Inc., Mishawaka, to conduct a five-year master plan on Warsaw parks.

The master plan is required for the park to apply for grants, and assess community needs and park finances.

The last time the master plan was updated was in 1998, and it covered the years 1998-2002.

"We really encourage everyone to get involved in this process by submitting a survey and attending the public input meeting, whether they currently use the parks and programs or not," said Staci Young, Warsaw Parks activities director. "The master plan will be used as a guide for planning and decision making, and community input will help to shape a plan that reflects the community's interests and concerns."

The public is invited to a meeting Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion to provide suggestions, feedback and input about the future of Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department.

Individuals will have the opportunity to visit several stations covering different areas such as park maintenance, programs and events and park administration.

The survey results will be reviewed at the March 15 regularly scheduled park board meeting to allow citizens time to return surveys.
