A Fort Wayne jazz quintet will kick of this summer's Concerts in Central Park.
The five-member quintet, The Kevin Piekarski Jazz Quintet, will perform Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Central Park.
The concert is free, and is sponsored by the Warsaw Park and Recreation Department.
The band includes bass player Piekarski, guitarist George Ogg, saxophone player Rick Brown, drummer Doug Laughlin and trombonist Loy Hetrick.
Piekarski has been assistant principal bassist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic since 1983. He earned his bachelor's of music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
He is a bass instructor at Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne. He joined the music faculty at Grace College in fall 2005.
He said those who attend the concert can expect to hear music from Duke Ellington, swing and Latin tunes, ballads and bebop tunes.
"We will play traditional jazz standard music and mix it up," Piekarski said.
