Work on Kiddieland is progressing, said Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Maintenance Director Shaun Gardner at the Parks Board's meeting Tuesday.
Kiddieland is the play area near the Zimmer Biomet Center Lake Pavilion and Center Lake.
"We went and removed the old structure at Kiddieland, the galaxy structure," said Gardner. "We have the area prepped and leveled out for the new pieces that are coming. We also had to replace some of the curbing around the exterior of that area."
He added the "all inclusive merry-go-round (was) on hand."
"We're waiting on the other piece to be delivered," he said. "We're probably going to start running some holes and getting things in the ground probably in the next week or so over there, so you'll see some progress as you go by."
In other business, the board:
• Heard from Gardner swinging benches have been put in along Center Lake. His staff also finished planting flowers downtown and at parks and put in bike racks in several locations, including along Market Street.
• Heard from Recreation Director Stephanie Schaefer that the department has had several of its concerts in its Summer Concert Series.
She said its last Imagination Station had 102 participants, which she believes to be a record, and its Library Stories have had 170-180 people.
Schaefer also said staff is ready for the Rockin' for Riley concert on Friday, June 20, and Wipeout will be at Pike Lake from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25.
• Heard from Parks Superintendent Larry Plummer that the department has applied for an $80,000 Dekko Foundation grant to move the Mantis Skate Park.
• Heard from Plummer that the Warsaw dive team recently found debris left behind from the removal of Center Lake's pier.
Milestone Contractors LP returned and removed the rest of the debris, including some metal. The debris wasn't near the lake's swimming area.
• Heard Ben Mikel was the Team Member of the Month for April and Jeremy Humes the Team Member of the Month for May.
The board's next meeting is 5:15 p.m. July 15 at Warsaw City Hall.
