Two weeks ago Darren Parker had a score in the 70s in an 18-hole match for the first time in his life.
Then he did it again. Then yet again.
He shot a 78 in Saturday's Warsaw Sectional to advance with two others to the individual portion of Friday's regional at Chestnut Hills.
He practiced at Chestnut Hills for the first time earlier this week.
"I like it," the Tippecanoe Valley graduate said. "I shot an 80 the first time. With all the nerves at the regional, the course will probably cause a lot of high scores."
Parker's short irons have always been his biggest strength. But lately his play on the greens has been better.
"Lately I've been chipping and putting on the greens better," he said. "That's what's really helped me."
His scores indicates he is playing some of the best golf of his life.
He hopes so.
"I guess you could say I'm pretty confident right now," he said.
Northfield's Robby Herbert (73) and Culver Community's Josh Pugh (78) advanced with Parker from the Warsaw Sectional to the regional.
