Editor, Times-Union: The folks in Warsaw, for the most part, love their parks and recreational programs. How do I know this? I have served with the Warsaw Parks Department for almost 20 years.
(First As chairman of the committee who oversaw the planning and construction of Center Lake Park and the last 10 years or so as a member of the Park Board of Directors).
You would be hard pressed to find a more qualified and dedicated park Superintendent than Jon Garber. Larry Plummer is a first rate Parks Director and what can I say about Staci Young, Activities Director? She must hold some kind of record for the number of programs and activities she comes up with and directs. Don’t know how she does it. As far as the rest of the park employees are concerned, the beautiful parks don’t just happen magically, they do it.
Now to the point of my letter. Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department has completed the draft of its Five Year Master Plan. This plan identifies the needs and priorities of the park system. You all know the state of the economy at this time. It is our intent to spend money as wisely as we can. “Getting as much bang for the buck as is possible” is the term I hear so often these days. We can do that but we’d like to hear from you.
Following our regular board meeting Tuesday evening we will hold a public session at the Center Lake Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. Your input is welcomed. We look forward to seeing you there. If you are unable to attend and have input, please contact us at Warsaw Parks Dept, 117 E Canal St., Warsaw, In.
