Park Board Seeks Input On Alcohol At Center Lake Pavilion

Warsaw Park Board is requesting the public attend Tuesday's meeting to provide input on the topic of alcohol at Center Lake Pavilion.

The meeting is at 5:15 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion, Canal Street, Warsaw.

The pavilion hosts wedding receptions and birthday parties, among other events, where alcohol currently is allowed. The park board approved April 15 to sue a group responsible for damages to Center Lake Pavilion's interior in March during a birthday party where alcohol was involved.

Park Superintendent Jon Garber said, during the April meeting, previous instances have taken place where damage had been done to the pavilion when alcohol had been allowed at the pavilion.

"We are seeking direction from the public because we want to know the impact it would have on the community if it was decided to ban alcohol at the pavilion or continue allowing alcohol," Garber said.

The park board suggested adding in the pavilion lease agreement a clause about alcohol usage at events at the pavilion, and discussed possibly prohibiting alcohol at the pavilion.

The board agreed during the April meeting they felt it would be a good idea to receive public input regarding the alcohol issue at the pavilion.

The current lease agreement states a person signing on or behalf of the lease agrees to be personally liable for all damages in excess of those covered by the $225 damage deposit fee.

The lease also states alcohol must be kept inside the pavilion.

The public will have the opportunity during Tuesday's meeting to voice their opinions on whether they think alcohol should continue to be allowed at Center Lake Pavilion or prohibited.

The time each person will be allowed to speak depends on the number of people who attend the meeting.
