Warsaw Park Board nominated officers for 2013 during its meeting Tuesday night. The 2013 park board officers were nominated and approved as follows: Bill Baldwin, president, and Steve Haines, vice president. Recreation Director Staci Young gave an activities report, noting Zumba Session II was Oct. 23 to Nov. 8 with 15 registered participants. This is an increased number from Session I, having 12 registered participants. The Holiday Light Display at Central Park was Dec. 7. It was celebrated with the “Light up the Night” event. There were an estimated 800 to 900 people in attendance. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived for the event on a fire truck, there were reindeer and four school choirs performing throughout the night. “Christmas Countdown” will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is free and will include Santa, goodie bags for the kids with a craft, hot chocolate and cookies. “Letters from Santa” forms are currently being accepted through Friday at 4 p.m. Participation is currently around 70 letters, up from last year, which yielded a total of 43 letters. Sponsorship packets were distributed to the board. They have recently been sent out to prospective sponsors in the area. Maintenance Director Shaun Gardner reported the original shingle roof on the Central Park restrooms is being replaced with a steel roof and should be completed this week. In other business, Park Superintendent Larry Plummer read aloud a resignation letter provided by board member John Sadler and presented him with a plaque for his years of service to the board. Gardner reported to the board that the department is currently refurbishing picnic tables for next year. Plummer reported that a final draft of the tree ordinance is ready to be presented to the city council. Council member Jerry Frush requested a copy of the final draft be sent to the park board members.
