Warsaw Park Board elected its 2012 officers during its meeting Tuesday.

The board re-elected Bill Baldwin to serve as president, and John Sadler as vice president.

Other park board members for 2012 are Steve Haines, Diane Quance, Dan Robinson, and Michelle Boxell.

The board also approved  a Pete Thorn gym rental agreement.

During the board’s Nov. 15 meeting, it agreed to have city attorney Mike Valentine provide feedback on the agreement.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the board reviewed a letter from Valentine who recommended that no insurance requirement be made in the lease for those who rent the gym.

Valentine also stated in the letter that claims for injuries are covered by city insurance.

The fee to rent the gym is $40 per hour.

The board approved a 2012 rental agreement for the Pete Thorn Center for the city of Warsaw Parks Department and Council on Aging and Aged.

The Council on Aging and Aged lease will be for $12,636 per year, or $1,053 per month.

Staci Young, activities director, gave an update on Christmas activities in the park.

She said the Light Up The Night event on Dec. 2 with carolers from four local elementary schools and the Warsaw Ministerial Association went well. There also was a visit in the park with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

On Dec. 16 for the Christmas Countdown event there were 600 people who attended, including 250 to 350 children.

There were 55 children who participated in Letters From Santa.

Young presented a 2012 sponsorship guide to park board members. She said 2011 sponsors of park programs also have received the 2012 guides.

Also during the meeting, Baldwin and Larry Plummer, park director, thanked Jon Garber for his service as parks superintendent.

Garber is resigning effective Dec. 31 after serving as park superintendent for 43 years.

Plummer has been appointed by mayor-elect Joe Thallemer to serve as parks superintendent effective Jan. 1.

Garber said he has enjoyed working with the board, city council, and department heads.

An open house will be Dec. 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. at  the Warsaw Parks office, 117 E. Canal St., to honor Garber.
