Warsaw Park Board approved using Boggs Building on Little League Drive as a rental facility during its meeting Tuesday night.
The facility previously housed park activities offices, but vacancies opened at the Pete Thorn Center on Park Avenue and the park activities offices were moved there last week.
The board approved the rental fee for the Boggs Building to be the same as the Firemen’s Building at $125 per day Monday through Thursday, and $150 per day, Friday through Sunday and on holidays. The capacity for the Boggs Building is 100 people.
Jon Garber, park superintendent, said since the park board approved allowing the Boggs Building to be rented out, more tables and chairs will need to be purchased for the facility.
Garber informed the board that painting has been done, electrical lines have been installed, and offices have been carpeted at the Pete Thorn Center. The parks offices and The Council on Aging & Aged are both in the center.
The board approved an amendment to a lease agreement for the center beginning in October to raise the lease rate for the Council on Aging & Aged from $961 to $1,053, since the organization is gaining more square footage.
The board also discussed a use for the Pete Thorn Center gymnasium.
Staci Young, park activities director, said she will discuss with the Council on Aging & Aged if the community would be allowed to rent the gymnasium on weekends.
Young suggested the board could consider possibly limiting the types of rentals it wants for the gymnasium.
Diane Quance, board city council representative, said she knows of a volleyball league that travels to Bourbon on weekends that would benefit from the gymnasium at the center on weekends.
In other business, Garber informed the board that playground equipment at McKinley Park has been installed.
Garber also said the parks department received a $12,588.30 insurance claim check for July 22 storm damage and the check will be used to plant trees in the fall. Garber said the board requested $17,000 for its insurance claim.
Young gave an update on Celebration Latina that was Saturday night in Central Park. She said 1,200 people attended the event.
Gary Parker, Warsaw resident, thanked Garber for being on a gardening program that airs on Saturday mornings on WRSW.
The board will meet again Oct. 18 at 5:15 p.m. at the Pete Thorn Center.
