Warsaw Park Board on Tuesday approved Warsaw Community Schools Food Services offering its annual free lunches for youth at Central Park. The program will run June 6 to July 30. This year marks the seventh summer that the meal services have been provided in the parks by the WCS Food Services department. There were 5,779 lunches served at Center Lake and Lucerne Park last year, according to Marci Franks, WCS director of food and nutrition services. Also during the meeting, Tracey Marshall and Marie Tutarow gave an update on the fundraiser scheduled for June 29 at Fribley Field. The Marine Riders of Michiana is having a benefit to raise funds for the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children. There will be children events at Fribley Field from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a motorcycle ride for adults to follow. An agreement was approved to allow the YMCA the use of Lucerne Park facilities for its Camp Little Eagle program. This is a day camp where campers do daily activities. Ride Walk Advisory Committee Bylaws were adopted by the board. The board approved a 2013 tennis program agreement between the parks department and Warsaw Community Tennis Association. Jan Orban, representative of the Warsaw Community Tennis Association, was present to give a presentation to the board on the program. This agreement is between the Park and Recreation Board, WCS School Corporation and the Warsaw Community Tennis Association. The School Corporation allows the use of the school tennis courts, the Tennis Association provides all of the instruction and programing and the park department provides financial assistance. The board also heard a report from Larry Plummer, parks superintendent, that 21 trees will be planted at Central Park replacing the 21 ash trees that were removed due to damage from the Emerald Ash Borer. These planting will take place in early April.
