SYRACUSE – Paralee Traster, 91, Rittenhouse Senior Living, Valparaiso, for the last three years and formerly of Syracuse, passed away Feb. 15, 2015, at VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
She was born May 3, 1923, in North Judson, to William and Mabel Lain Harvey. On Sept. 27, 1946, she married Frederick J. Traster, who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Syracuse High School and Wayne University of Beauty Culture. During World War II she was employed at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant and C.G Conn Ltd., and was presented the Army Navy Production Award for her efforts on the home front during the war.
She operated Paralee’s Beauty Salon in Syracuse for over 60 years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Affectionately known as Grammy by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved all of her extended family.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue (and spouse Edward) Hussey, Valparaiso; her son, Jay (and spouse Diane) Traster, Cape Coral, Fla.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Phyllis, Virginia, Wilma Claire and Kathleen; four brothers: George, James, William and Richard; and grandson, Timmy.
Services will be at noon Friday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor David Henry officiating. Burial is in Syracuse Cemetery.
