GOSHEN — The Wawasee boys and girls cross country teams just missed out on advancing to semistate. With the top five teams advancing out of the regional, the Wawasee boys and girls each finished sixth at Saturday’s Elkhart Central Regional at Elkhart County Ox Bow Park. In the boys race, 13th-ranked Northridge took first place with 45 points, followed by Goshen (72), Mishawaka (90), Penn (118) and South Bend Riley (130), while Wawasee posted 147 points, finishing just outside of the advancing teams. Like the boys race, ninth-ranked Northridge was awarded the championship with 39 points, with Penn (65), Mishawaka (77), Elkhart Memorial (100) and Goshen (154) also advancing, while the Lady Warriors garnered 172 points, finishing sixth. Along with the top five teams advancing to Saturday’s New Haven Semistate in Fort Wayne, the top 15 individuals also move on, and Wawasee had two of those. While Elkhart Christian Academy’s Joel Hartman was winning the boys race in 15:53, Wawasee’s Reid Stichter advanced to semistate by placing eighth in a time of 16:18. In the girls race, Mishawaka’s Anna Rohrer was the champion with a time of 17:24, but Wawasee’s Bre Robinson also advanced with her time of 19:42, good for 13th place. The semistate will take place at IPFW’s Hefner Fields at 1 p.m.
