Six Pacesetter companies kicked off the United Way fund drive within their own work forces, making a start in the overall campaign of raising $1.1 million. Currently, United Way tallies show 15 percent of the goal has been met. This year, Pacesetters bested their companies' giving record by an average of 345 percent more than last year. Companies achieved their individual goals by increasing employee-giving participation up to 100 percent and increasing matching donations from their corporations. Pacesetter companies included Paragon Medical Inc., Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Miller's Health Systems, Bertsch Services, Farmers State Bank and Heartline Pregnancy Center.
