No matter where you are, be it the break room at work, the office, the bar, the smoke-filled nag-champa-laced room or even the prison dorm, there are always the pot shots and the bad mouthing of the conflict in the Mideast. Finger pointing, the personal agendas and, of course, oil, are always popular subjects.
I am young, and in these years I have been around I have seen a lot. I have come to understand that there is no black and white, and no Republican or Democrat. This is not a world of peace and love, a world where differences are talked out with rational and conscience thoughts. This is a world of personal achievements. This is a world where religious fanatics murder to get a point across, a place where wars are fought over imaginary lines and imaginary beings. We need oil and we need a strong military point in the Mideast. This is not a personal want, it truly is a need.
This is not the '60s and this is not Vietnam. Jumping on the band wagon and pointing fingers and blaming the Republicans, the Democrats, Bush, oil and the "man." All this may impress some new-age hippie spitting half-wit intellectual thoughts over his environmentally friendly microbrew. But not me, rather how about looking at the things we do in out lives that force the people in power to do these things for us. Bush is not the blame. Oil is not to blame. The real blame is put on all of us.
Our everyday lives perpetuate the reasons for all the actions of our leaders. Everything from burning coal for the energy we use, to filling our cars with gasoline. We would be upset if we woke up tomorrow and were told there was no more gas for our cars, no more oil or natural gases to heat our homes. Not only have we made this bed, but we are very comfortable in it. And this is what should enrage and ultimately engage us.
