Our Father's House Educates Community On Donation Process

Our Father’s House Founding Director Roz Morgan came to work Monday morning and found a soiled couch and recliners with broken springs outside the organization’s Winona Avenue warehouse.
Morgan said some of the items that are dropped off at the warehouse dock are refuse, and people who do not have trash pick up are dumping their items off at the warehouse.
Morgan said people have dropped off broken refrigerators, non-working stoves and broken freezers.
“It has been in the last year, it has gotten so out of control with unusable donations,” Morgan said.
The items have to be dismantled and hauled away.
“The point is if you wouldn’t put it in your own home, don’t bring it here thinking we can do something with it,” Morgan said. “We do not take any furniture donations after we are closed.”
Donations at the warehouse located in the blue warehouse next to Sparkman Auto are accepted Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
People also can donate items at the Our Father’s House store any time of day at the drop box in front of the store.
Morgan said people are encouraged to put donated items inside the drop box, because they will be in danger of weather damage outside of it.
“We want to put something in a home that is usable and that is something that will lend to the comfort of the individuals who are getting it,” Morgan said. “I can’t give them stuff that is soiled and with broken springs.”
Morgan said for 16 years Our Father’s House has been able to serve the community through donations and thanks the community for that.
