OSWEGO - See how people lived more than 200 years ago during Oswego Trader Days May 15-16.
There will be all kinds of goods from blacksmith items and glass beads, to leather items and clothing. See how a primitive long bow is made. There will be different types of camps from marquees and tepees to wall tents.
May 15 events include a skillet throw for women at 10 a.m., black powder shoot demonstration starting at 11 a.m., cake auction at 1 p.m., primitive archery shoot at 1:30 p.m. and a hawk and knife throw at 4 p.m. All participants will be in primitive dress.
On May 16, starting at 1 p.m., there is a mountain man event, which includes black powder shoot, primitive archery, hawk and knife and fire starting.
There will be a chicken barbecue, brats, pork rinds, soft drinks and other food items available for purchase on the camp grounds. On May 15 starting at 7 a.m. in the Oswego Community Building, there will be a pancake and sausage breakfast.
The gates open to the public May 15-16 at 9 a.m. Gates close May 15 at 5 p.m. and at 4 p.m. May 16. Cost is $3 for adults, $2 for children, and kids 6 years old and younger are free.In conjunction with Oswego Trader Days, the Kosciusko County Historical Society will have the Pound Store open. Built in 1838, it is the oldest, still-standing commercial building in the county. It served Oswego as a general store and post office. There is no fee to tour the building, but visitors can support the structure by purchasing some baked items.
