Oswego House Fire

Posted

A malfunctioning furnace is believed to have caused a Thursday night fire that destroyed an Oswego house. Leesburg Fire Department responded to the call shortly before midnight and found the vacant house at Second and Church streets engulfed in flames. LFD Chief Terry Epply said the fire was quickly brought under control, but firefighters remained on the scene for more than two hours extinguishing hot spots. North Webster Fire Department provided tanker assistance and Squad 70 - the county's fire investigation team - was called to help in determining the cause of the blaze. The owner of the home, Harold Gasaway, resides next door to the house and told police and fire officials that he was nearing completion of a remodeling project at the home and had been there until about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. He noticed the fire as he was preparing to go to bed. Damage is estimated at $40,000. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
