OrthoWorx will fund an academic leadership development program at Warsaw Community School Corp.
Brad Bishop, OrthoWorx executive director, made the announcement to the Warsaw School Board Monday night.
He said last Thursday the OrthoWorx board of directors approved a proposal to fund the program. It was identified as a need by the original Cambridge Education study and coincides with the new statewide requirement of teacher evaluations.
According to a press release provided by Bishop at Monday night’s meeting, the program will “assist school administrators and principals in improving their classroom observation and coaching skills.”
The program also “will include group training and individual coaching for administrators and secondary observers in the Warsaw Community Schools Corporation. The OrthoWorx funding also includes a workshop on academic leadership and performance evaluation that will be offered to surrounding school corporations,” according to the press release.
Bishop told the board, “We believe that by helping administrators with these new responsibilities, we can help drive even better outcomes by students. We’re delighted to fund this and look forward to working with the school corporation.”
In the press release, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett is quoted as saying, “It is exciting to see the leadership and cooperation between educators and community leaders in Warsaw. They are working hard to improve learning opportunities for students, which will strengthen the local workforce and economy. This partnership is a tremendous example for school and business leaders around the state.”
Dr. Craig Hintz, WCS superintendent, thanked Bishop at Monday’s meeting.
“We appreciate the support of the OrthoWorx board to bring this forward,” he said. “It is a new era of teacher evaluation in the state. Training will help us better prepare our building administrators and secondary observers. Teacher evaluation is clearly about teacher improvement and we want to do this with our teaching staff.”
OrthoWorx and its consultant will work with WCS and surrounding schools to schedule the training over the next several months, according to the press release.
OrthoWorx offers community-based strategic initiatives in collaboration with the orthopedic industry and other stakeholders aimed at ensuring the Warsaw region continues to reap the social and economic benefits that derive from its position as “The Orthopedic Capital of the World.” These initiatives were launched in 2009 with initial support from Lilly Endowment.
